UNDERSTANDING AND PREVENTING FIRST RESPONDER SUICIDE
Standard (civilian) approaches to suicide prevention often fail to meet the needs of first responders, and their leadership. Doc Springer developed this course to deliver actionable insights for addressing suicide risk from a culturally competent framework.
This 2 hour online course was designed to meet the needs of departments who require annual suicide prevention training.
In addition to covering common sources of risk for first responders, potential warning signs for suicide, myths about suicide attempts and suicide-focused conversations, Dr. Springer describes how suicidal thoughts progress for many first responders, how to approach and support a fellow first responder who may be suicidal, how to reach out if you are at risk, new biological treatment options, and key resources for further assisting first responders.
